An introduction to the wonderful world of coffee


Designed by world-renowned coffee experts Dr. Andrej Godina and Fabio Milani, this intensive and fun-filled one-day course is the perfect starting point whether you want to learn more about coffee purely for pleasure or you’re thinking about becoming a barista.

In this one-day coffee-making course, you’ll learn about each stage of the fascinating coffee production process from farm to cup including brewing methods used to extract the beans, how roasters develop distinct flavours applying different roasting profiles as well as how to brew perfect Italian espresso.

Through hands-on training with our experienced instructors, you’ll quickly become confident in using espresso equipment including the grinder and the machine to produce the perfect cup of coffee. Specialised tasting sessions will give you an insight into the exciting variety of flavours coffee has to offer in both the Arabica and Robusta varieties. By the end of this comprehensive course, you’ll have the skills to make every drink on the espresso-based menu from macchiatos to cappuccinos to barista standards.


Dr.Andrej Godina: With a PhD in Science, Technology and Economics in the Coffee Industry, few people know the coffee industry like Dr. Andrej Godina! A world-renowned coffee expert, Andrej is a licensed trainer and master barista accredited by the prestigious Specialty Coffee Association (SCA). In 2015, he founded Umami Area, an association dedicated to spreading the culture of quality coffee through events and training programmes. If all that wasn’t enough, he also works as a coffee taster and a consultant for coffee roasters and Italian coffee machine companies.

Fabio Milani: An international coffee consultant with over 10 years of industry experience, Fabio Milani is best known for inventing coffee flair, which brings the art of flair to coffee-making. In addition to teaching the art of barista, throughout his rich career, Fabio has worked with some of the biggest brands in the coffee industry, been on the judging panel of numerous competitions and even appeared in a Costa Coffee advert!


The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) is a non-profit organisation that represents thousands of coffee professionals around the world from producers to baristas. The world leader in barista and coffee education, they offer a prestigious Coffee Skills Program which comprises six different modules. Each module is available at three different levels, with points attached at each stage.

Our Coffee Course (1 day) provides you with the skills you need to pass the SCA Introduction to Coffee module. If you wish to obtain the SCA certificate and earn 10 points towards your Coffee Skills Diploma, you can book the exam through EBS. The exam which costs €60, will take place under supervision of an SCA authorised trainer on a specified date after your EBS course.

Please note that sitting the SCA exam is entirely optional.

An introduction to the history of coffee

Learn all about the fascinating journey of coffee from its origins in Ethiopia to Yemen and the arabic-speaking world and modern-day coffee culture in Europe. Learn all about the difference between Arabica and Robusta, gain insight into the main coffee-consuming countries and more.

Global coffee production

We’ll examine the most important coffee-producing countries and explore how geographic position influences coffee flavour.

The roasting process

Become familiar with the coffee roasting process, learn how to preserve roasted coffee and enjoy a tasting session of a light and dark roasted coffee prepared using a French press.

Brewing methods

In this practical session, you’ll get to grips with different brewing methods and learn the difference in under and over extraction, become familiar with the grinding process and coffee dosing for espresso and filter coffee.


Learn how to use the espresso machine quickly and confidently. Practise preparing espresso-based beverages including macchiatos, cappuccinos, flat whites and more.

Tasting sessions

Develop your coffee palate and enhance your appreciate of coffee during fun tasting sessions. Learn the difference between different types of coffee:

  • Instant coffee and filter coffee
  • Robusta and Arabica coffee
  • Specialty coffee prepared using the Chemex and Aeropress coffeemakers
